Today I am talking about one of my favorite essential oils. Lavender. I cannot live without it in my daily and nightly routine as it helps to relieve anxiety, stress and insomnia. I also regularly use it for hair care and skincare and as a perfume!
I especially am in love with the Bali Botanic Lavender Essential Oil. Founders and nomadic partners, Bar and Lou gave up their jobs in London and moved to Bali to create a company using wild crafted aromatic plant crops that have been cultivated without fertilizers or pesticides. Lavender Oil is their first product and it’s outstanding! It’s handcrafted with love and good intentions. (They also now sell Frankincense Oil which you know I will be getting if you read my post In Love With: Frankincense Oil)
Nearly forty plants with the mint family are technically classified as lavender, although the most common version of lavender is Lavandula angustifolia, which is the variety on which the color “lavender” is based. This genus of flowering plants is found in Europe, Africa, the Mediterranean, and parts of Asia, as well as other small corners of the “Old World”. The reason that lavender is so widely used is its massive range of applications, from food and fragrance to cosmetics and herbal medicine; this plant is chock full of essential oils that can have powerful effects on the human body, as well as one of the most unique and beloved scents in the world.
Lavender is soothing to the emotions and pleasing to the senses. It helps heal abscesses, acne, athletes foot and fungal infections, bruises, sun burns, lice, ringworm, cold sores, cuts, eczema, hives, inflammation, insect bites and stings, psoriasis/rashes, stretch-marks and other skin issues. It is beneficial in reducing aches and pains, cellulite, heart palpitations, high blood pressure, Lumbago, swelling, joint pain, rheumatism, and sprains. When breathed in, it can also help alleviate bronchitis, coughs, colds, congestion, flu, laryngitis, throat infections, whooping cough, and sinus infections among a myriad of other uses. (source)
HOW I USE LAVENDER OIL:
- Diffusing Lavender which helps so much to soothe my nerves. It always makes my house smell AMAZING!
- Dab a drop onto my pulse points, blend together and take deep inhales. This helps immediately with stress and anxiety.
- Apply a small amount to my pillow cases before bed.
- Mix with a carrier oil and apply to the bottoms of my feet before sleep to help with insomnia.
- Mix a few drops in my jojoba oil for all over body moisturizing.
- Apply to my hair brush before brushing my hair.
My new favorite way to use Lavender Oil is to apply two drops directly onto my hair brush before bed and brush through my scalp and ends. This not only stimulates the scalp but relaxes the entire body and mind. Lavender also helps to strengthen hair and relieves scalp dryness and itchiness.
